They never got that tube through my nose so they always just put it down my throat through my lips. They have me bit on one of those special 'rings' and they just put the tube through it.
A bronch can be done while you're awake. But I guess only when you are comfortable about the procedure and your breathing is steady.
When they do one on me, they sedate my mouth (have to hold a liquid in my moth for a while). Then I have to gorgle(sp??) with it to sedate my throat. And after that they spray it deeper down in my throat and let me breath in deep a few times so it can get in my bronch.
This really works for me and I've never had a problem
I never had one till after my transplant though. So no real mucous/coughing problems.
I did it done a few times when I was very young but they always let me sleep and they would suck the mucous out while they were at it anyway...
