C-diff and Thrush

I have c-diff, and thrush and its miserable.
This is my first time getting c-diff and I dont know much about it.
What should I look for as signs its getting better or worse?
How long does it usually take to disapate. What meds have you taken for it?
I am on flagyl and it seemed to be working at first because my 5th test came back negative but now I feel its starting all over again. Any ideas??

Is there anything from the health food store I can buy for this that would help both of these probs???

YES get yourself some pro-biotics (acidophilus, etc) ASAP!! They're found at the health food store. Get the kind that needs to be refrigerated. Also eat lots of yogurt. you can take much more than the dosage on the bottle of the probiotics.

As for meds, the only med that works for me on thrush is diflucan (fluconizole). Nystatin doesn't do anything for me. Same for my son when he had thursh - nystatin did nothing. Come to find out when I read the pamphlet insert that it is only effective something like 60% of the time. Diflucan has a much better %.

With all the meds we take, the best thing is to try to PREVENT issues like c-diff and thrush by taking probiotics as part of our daily routine, especially when on antibiotics. The ONLY way I can avoid yeast infections while on antibiotics is by taking probiotics as well. Good luck!

Oh man, those are the worst combination of side effects when on antibiotics. They can make things absolutely miserable (as if it was a picnic before, ha!)

I do well to increase the amount of yogurt I eat--it has the good bugs you want in your gut. As for the thrush, you may need an antifungal prescription like Fluticonosole. (sorry for the spelling). That takes care of my thrush right away. In the meantime, avoid sodas or other high-sugar foods. The yeast THRIVES on sugar, so anything that travels through your mouth can potentially feed the thrush. If your mouth is really sore, buy some Biotene toothpaste. That will help prevent dry mouth and will keep you from opening up any sores in your mouth.

Good luck, my friend.

Here's an article I wrote about thrush.

I'm with Caroline...get yourself a probiotic as soon as you can! Emily had c.diff 3 times before we started her on Florajen 3, and has never cultured it since. There are lots of probitic products to choose from, get the one with the most live cultures posible, and check labels...some specify that they are active against c.diff.

I feel for you! C.diff is by far the worst thing we've dealt with so far.

The Flagyl worked quicky for Em, but the c.diff came back as soon as we were done with it. She was on Vancomycin first, and that didn't seem to do anything for her, but it might be worth asking them to give you Vanco next time...you never know.

Get out to GNC or an organic store as quickly as you can and pick up a probiotic. Sorry, nystatin always does the trickfor us with thrush, so I can't help there. I hope you feel better soon.
