So on Monday I had my cryo-surgery to freeze off abnormal cervical tissue to prevent it from turning into cervical cancer. That was no big deal (6 minutes, a little cramping, done). The doc said I would have a lot of watery discharge, and she wasn't kidding! This is where the problem comes in. I can't use tampons, it has to be pads, and the stuff really is not much more than water, so its like walking around in a wet diaper! My skin is constantly damp and now I am getting a rash, yes a rash down there!!!! What the h*ll can I do!? I could have this discharge for a couple of weeks, I cannot walk around wet for that long! I try to change the pad every hour and a half or so (just to have a dry one, its not really saturated by then), but that's not possible at night and not always possible at work. Please help ladies!!

Yuck! That really sucks, and I can empathize entirely. I used to
have serious periods and before I started using tampons I would get
a rash too. Ultimately what helped me was changing the pad, which
you're doing, but also anytime I would change my pad, I would wipe
the entire area dry before pulling my pants back on; just to get
any extra moisture Off the rash. I also tried "extra
absorbent" or "Super" pads, that weren't ultra thin.
Dunno what you're using, so it's just another thing I did. They are
a little more of a diaper feel, but if it stops the rash and the
constant need to change the pad, I'd say go for it. Also, and I am
not sure about it, are the urinary incontinence pads different from
period pads? it seems like they would be, and because you said it
was like water, maybe those would work better to pull that moisture
away.

Well, that's my two cents. I hope it helps, and feel better
soon!
Jessi,

Sorry to hear you're having such a time with this. I had the LEEP procedure done a few years ago (a bit diff... they actually "burn" off the pre-cancerous stuff), but I was told something similar. I had some spotting the first several days, but rest assured it DID get much better as time went on (even though on the third day I called and made sure it would get better, cause it didn't seem to be!). So, just so you know, since it was recently done it should let up. Did your doc tell you how often you'd have it? I know with mine, they said to call in a few days if it didn't start getting better. So, maybe just give a quick call and make sure its still "normal" and maybe they could give you a better time frame of when it would start getting "lighter".

Sorry, probably not much help, but just want you to know I've been through something similar and felt your same concerns. I had to just do what you're doing, but mine did get lighter, so maybe check with the doc. In the meantime, hang in there.

You can PM me if you need to vent.

I havent had the procedure, but I have gotten a rash. I am unable to use tampons so I get stuck with the lovely pads. ON bad months I have to change at least every 2 hours. Not necessarily because its saturated, but because the whole area down there is "damp". I have even carried extra underwear & wipes to cleanse & refresh. During the worst times I have actually put Desitin on to relief the discomfort from the rash. Aint it grand being a woman!

The only thing I thought of, if its really bad-those garments they have women wear after they deliver babies. Like a nylon stocking type underwear with a huge thick pad in it that you change as needed. But, I wouldn't want to leave the house with it on. If you have that much discharge maybe that would help.

Uggh! I had a biopsy and had to have pads -- felt like a diaper.

When I had DS and had an episiotomy, I had issues with swelling where my stitches were, spotting... I ended up buying a package of depends and to start I placed a big giant pad in them, too. Every time I used the bathroom, I used the peri-squeeze bottle and those tucks wipes. Different situation all together. But I didnt' irritate the area anymore by wiping, was more room to breathe. And at least two baths a day to soak.
