carry-on bags

Hi Jane,

I flew this past September, right after the bombing in London I think. At that time they had a ban on all liquids. All you need is a letter from your doctor containing all the meds on it that you will be taking with you as carry on.

I flew to Uruguay, South America. Everything was fine. In most cases, they didn't even look at the letter. I had one carry on with regular meds and one that was insulated with my cold meds (Pulmozyme). Everything was fine. You'll be fine. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!!!

Hi Jane,

I wasn't allowed to carry Purell, but at that time the ban was just placed. You can probably take it if you include it on your doctor's note. Otherwise, they might make you throw it away.

I just took hand sanitizer & lotion through carry on without a problem but they were both very small bottles, like 1 oz, so they were well under the 3 oz limit. You have to separate out all your gels and liquids from your bag -- and it cannot exceed a certain size plastic zip lock bag -- quart or gallon I cannot remember, but that link that someone posted will say. Anyway it helps speed up the line if you pack your stuff ready to go in a zip lock bag, then just put it in the grey bucket along with everything else you have to send through x-ray.

Why would they have taken your lipstick?

Oh, I forgot Jane! NO Purell!!! They took it away from me, though I consider that vital to my health, esp on a plane! I remembered to pack some in the luggage, though, to use during the trip. I'd bring sanitizing wipes instead-they didn't take them away from me on the trip home.

The rules from the UK are, and they will probably be different from any where else, any liquids must be presentend in a clear plastic bag for inspection. The bag has a 1 litre capacity and it must be packed loosely, each item must be no more than 100 ml. The inspected items then must be able to fit inside your carry-on bag.

Covering letters are needed from doctors for all medicines, but i'm not to sure as to wether the medicines will be treated apart from the 1 litre bag capacity. Our sons medicines are more than 100ml capacity, and I'll be buggered if I'm putting his meds in the baggage hold. lol

I haven't flown since February -- I always have ds's meds in a clear make up bag with labels facing out. Small lunch box cooler with polarpac ice packs (kind we get from CF services pharmacy) to keep the tobi, pulmozyme and liquid oral meds cool (antibiotics & bile salts). We DID have a problem at the local airport going out with our "breathing device" (nebulizer). They took us aside and did a different scan on it and made DH plug it in. Took FOREVER, I thought we'd miss our flight.

We haven't travelled with our vest yet. A friend of mine's granddaughter had problems going to mexico via NW airlines last year. They weren't going to let her carry it on. Irony is that NW airlines did a presentation at the CF education day on travelling/luggage. I figure we'll just stick bright orange medical equipment stickers on the outside of the vest duffle bag and ask our doctor for a letter next time we travel.
