carry-on bags

Has anyone flown in the past few weeks and can share some advice about carry-on stuff? We plan to bring all the meds, the neb compressors, cups and pulmozyme AND feeding pump with 24 cans of Peptamin formula with us to Florida.

Do we need notes from the doc? Has anyone run into any trouble with any of this?

Thanks

Hey there,

I have not flown in recent weeks - but I personally have always felt more at ease when I get a letter from my doc stating what meds I take and what machines are medically necessary for my care.

I have never needed to show them, but that way if there is ANY misunderstanding I have them. I will add that the last time I flew (just about a yr ago) I carried everything on with me all meds, compressor - a family member was driving to the same destination so they took my vest in their car - I had my entire bag searched both flying out and coming back - they did some test with a sponge and some machine to test and see that my compressor was not a bomb lol. They also did a more thorough search of ME on both departing/returning flights they had me take my shoes off, get wanded and on returning flight I was frisked by a female guard.

I know I am so threatening lol. I can see why they had to do all that. I just wanted to give you that experience as it was the first time I had flown since 9/11 and though it wasn't a bad experience it definitely added a bit of time to our check in - so you may want to account for possible extra time needed.

Hope you have a good flight and trip whereever you are going in FL.

Take Care,
Lindsey

The best place to go to find the specifics is the Traffic Security Administration website... they are very specific on what you can and cannont take for carry on. This is the website for med related stuff: http://www.tsa.gov/press/happenings/9-25_updated_passenger_guidance.shtm

Perscriptions and all that medical stuff is usually exempt, as it says on the website. I would definetly take a doctors note that lists all the stuff you are taking, I always do. They've never asked for it though. However, it's better to have it and not need it and than to need it and not have it, for sure.

Good luck!

Sorry I can't help you on the specific travel because last time I flew was in Aug, and on that day, you were not even able to carry mascara on the plane, they took my lotion and toothpaste from me as well.. That was right at the date of the Europe bomb scare that they deverted.

I did want to say about the 24 cans of feeding cans, that seems like so much to carry on the plane, can you just have it shipped there UPS, or can you buy more when you get out there? Maybe take a few cans for the first day or so or something..

Just a thought..

I sometimes get hassled for having too many carry on's.

Just tell whoever is challenging you that it's medical equipment. You're allowed by US federal law to carry on extra for medical equipment.

You know how it goes - it's not what you say, but how you say it. If your body language is such that you look like you know what you're talking about, you won't run into a problem.

From Jacksonville, FL To Philadelphia, PA
From Philadelphia, PA To Jacksonville, FL

When we left Jacksonville I don't remember taking my shoes off but maybe I did. They definitely didn't frisk me and wand me down though - they did that in PA.

They searched my bags in both places. lol Kurt was so peeved - he just sat there and thought of ALL people this has to happen to you lol. My reply OF COURSE it does - that is the joy of toting all this necessary medical crap around lol.
