cervical mucus in cf mums

I would like to read some cf mums' stories.
Have you noticed egg white cervical mucus in ovulation period?
How was your cervical mucus in ovulation period ?
How attempts Have you had to get a pregnancy? Then How many months have you had your child?

I'm not a CFer and therefore can't answer any of your questions, however, if you use the search feature on this website, this topic was discussed extensively very recently and that may be why you aren't getting too many responses yet. I would suggest maybe you utilize the search feature while you are waiting for some individual replies to your question. I'd love to answer them but I have no clue.....

I get a rubber cement like discharge that's plug like around the time of ovulation ... during other times of my cycle I would assume my cervical mucus is like a non-CFer.

I recently went to my gyno with the same questions. She told me that cfers have thicker mucus in the cervix but has never heard of a plug in the cervix before. But while examining me she found a plug. Her remarks were "my gosh those swimmers will never get thru this without help"!!! HA HA!!!! We were both laughing histerically!! So to answer you question yes I have thick mucus in my cervix and have been told that if I want to get pregnant I will have to do it by IVF. Hope this helps.

Sonia (great name btw!)....

I was told I look quite "normal", but we still haven't gotten prego and we've been trying for 3+ years. I don't want to do assistive reproduction cause of the risk of multiples, so we'll just keep trying.

The gyno also mentioned to me that the CFers she's seen have VERY thick cervical mucus that would cause problems. I don't think its just at ovulation, but always.

Maybe you could get an ovulation kit OTC and keep track of when it says you're ovulating. Then, you can see what your cervical mucus looks/feels like during that time to get a better idea of what ovulation looks like for you. That way, the kit will tell you when its going on and you can make note of what its like so you can recognize it in the future.

Sonia, IUI wouldn't increase risk of multiples if you didn't use an ovulation inducing drug with it I don't think. That might be something to consider if that's the only reason you're aren't considering fertility help. My husband and I might get that done if we can't get pregnant on our own but we deal with a little wondering if God has a greater plan that we aren't supposed to get pregnant, etc. so we'll see. I hope we get pregnant on our own. I guess that goes without saying. My understanding is it just helps the sperm get to the egg via a turkey baster like device. Of course, it might take a few times if there aren't multiple eggs to increase chances which we definitely aren't going to risk (Clomid) my health's for sake.

Interesting. Can you explain what IUI is and why it is different? I guess I thought every assisted reproduction puts in extra fertilized eggs in case some don't "take".... am I mistaken? My doc said anything assisted is out of the question, but if this does not increase the risk of multiples, I will deffinitely look into it!

If you don't take fertility drugs like clomid, all an IUI does is bybass the cervix and insert the sperm straight into the uterus - so you are only, most likely, going to be giving one egg a chance to be fertilized. If you add drugs like clomid into an IUI, as is often the case (we did), then you have the chance of more than one egg present and an increased chance for multiples (I had 4 eggs for my first IUI and 3 for my second, both only resulted on one fertilied egg - one of those IUIs resulted in a miscarriage, the other - well, it's still in my belly!).

To the original poster. I am pregnant wiht ym 2nd child. My first I concieved at age 21 with no problem whatsoever. This one we tried for 18 months before going to IUI with the theory that thick cervical mucous was probably the culprit - and that maybe in the 7 years between babies my mucous had thickened enough to be casuing some problems, as we have no other fertility issues between us.

I have a question, what would mucous look like if it came out. Last month, and this is the first I ve seen, but some weird white thing came out of me, and I was probably on the last couple days of my period, but it was long too and I cant explain what else it looked like cause its hard to discribe. Oh and it would tear easily. Could someone explain to me what the mucouse would look like.

Cervical mucus changes throughout the cycle in response to estrogen and progesterone changes. It can be thick, sticky, pasty, creamy, lotiony, watery, clear, stretchy - women have lots of descriptions for their cervical mucus. I have had the rubber cement type around the time of ovulation, but also have experienced clear, stretchy mucus when I was fertile. Fertile (watery, clear, stretchy) mucus can keep sperm alive in a woman's body for up to 5 days~ It's interesting to observe and keep a record of the changes you notice in your mucus. I have had three pregnancies, achieved without medical help. There is likely a lot of variation in the experience of women with CF - like with most aspects of this disease. Jennifer, I wonder about the mucus you describe - haven't heard of that before, maybe it is mucus from earlier in the cycle finding it's way out?

I have had the same experience as Momtana with being able to
achieve three pregnancies without any medical help.  <br>

I was pretty unaware of how ovulation occurs in regards to mucus
until I actually started charting  and observing my cycles
with the sympto-thermal method of Natural Family Planning. Then I
noticed how my mucus pattern does change increasing in quantity and
becoming more clear and stretchy as I get closer to ovulation.<br>

Noticing and recording these changes helps one to recognize their
own fertility pattern which then can be used  to either
achieve or postpone pregnancy.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"><br>

The mucus usually starts off with a day or two of sticky mucus,
which becomes increasingly creamy, wet, slippery, and like egg
white. At this phase when taken between two fingers this mucus will
stretch.

I see It creamy and then more watery and clear but it isn't stretchy.
Then a excitement I see stretchy mucus
i don't understand the reason

Check ou tthe book <i>Taking Charge fo Your Fertility</i>, that has a lot of good info about charting temps, checking cervical position and cervical mucous.
