Hi...38 yr old female with CF and CFRD. I've been on BC for a lil over 2 yrs now and about 6 months ago my period started going outta wack! One month I'd get it then the next nothing then the next it'll be here for a day, etc vicious circle. Or I'd get it when I'm supposed to then once I start a new pack of pills within a week I'd spot for a day or so with a lil cramping. The first 2 months I thought it was stress, not so sure any more. Has/does anyone else have this problem? If so what did you do to rectify the problem. I did some research and I'm either going through menopause or it's another side effect from CFRD. What to do what to do?!! Hellllllllllllllllllllpppppppppppppp!

Well I get irregular periods recently also. I have been on BC since I was 19 though - so for about 5 years now.

My gyno explained to me that when you are on BC for long periods of time it can cause a thinning of the uterine lining (I think it is the uterine lining anyway). That can cause more frequent break through bleeding, occasional spotting and light/irregular periods also. Also maybe some medications can cause this I am not sure. I will have to talk to my doc about the diabetes effecting it though because I have been having issues - with break through bleeding - in recent months and that may be part of the problem. Thank you for mentioning diabetes as a possible cause - I had not thought of that.

I tried BC to regulate my period before I got married, and it seriously whacked out my cycle. I ended up bleeding for three weeks and then being fine for a week. Eventually I just said screw it, and got an IUD instead. Much more reliable and its effectiveness isn't changed by any of my other meds, which is a HUGE benefit.

Best wishes as you find a solution that works best for you. I hope it won't take too long.

I guess I 4got to mention that I am NOT on any meds for my CF or for CFRD, the only meds I take are my enzymes and I don't even really take them all the time either. So I know for sure that it ain't any of my meds that could be screwing up my BC. So like I said it's either I am going through menopause and or it's CFRD...I am also NOT taking anything for CFRD either.

WOW! I am so jealous of you regarding no medicine for CF or CFRD. I didn't think that was possible.

As for the BC, I don't think it is CF related. I was also told that if you have been on it for a long time then it can do crazy things sometimes. But if you are nervous about it go see the doctor. Good luck!

LOL...didn't mean to make you jealous! LOL I've been like that since I was 9 yrs of age. Never had to take any meds for my CF no pulmo NO nothing! I was only diagnosed with CFRD about 3-4 months ago and thay ain't too worried yet as my numbers are in the "norm". And I've never been hospitalized either well except for the cleft lip and palate...which was fixed nicely.

I'm considered one of those CF ppl who has a "MILD" case. Diagnosed at 3 yrs of age and now almost 39 yrs of age and still goin strong!
