"birth control" is is a bit of a misnomer. Do you mean to use it as form of contraception, or is the main point of using it for its other properties?

I think what she means is, are you using it to delay pregnancy for now, or are you not planning on having kids?

If you aren't planning on having kids, getting your tubes tied is the most sure method.

If you want to have kids in a the future, I suggest the depo shot, it might help the irregular period thing.

<span style=" font-size: x-small;">I have been highly discouraged
by my cf dr's and my gyno about the Depo Shot. So make sure to ask
you cf dr about that before getting it.

I'll chime in about Depo. It is an injection that lasts three months - very effective, but if you find the side effects (from progestin, the only hormone in Depo, a synthetic form of progesterone which dominates the last week or two of the cycle) unacceptable you have to wait through the three months. Side effects reported with Depo include moodiness, weight gain ... along with irregular or no menstrual bleeding. Very effective contraception. Some women love it. I have been looking at Contraception and CF and haven't read about any problem for women with CF using Depo Provera.

I was also told by my doctors that the depo shot was not reccommended for cf patients.. i didn't really ask why.. but I stopped taking birth control.. I have wacky periods and everytime the birth control would make it better i would go on antibiotics that would make it go all wacky again.. so after years of trying i'm just plain old sick of it.. nothing worked for me.. i tried all three basic types.. and i would always get spotting or just irregular periods.. and they're always long.. at least now i can expect it to come every 14 days and last like 14 days.. i know it's long and it doesn't take long to start agian.. but i'd rather this than the wacky mood swings and just stupid -ness of being on birthcontrol..
