CF and climate

For ME climate influences things a lot. Even if its not DIRECTLY related to the lungs. For example (I alread whined about this in a blog) the rain makes me feel like crap over all. Achiness etc.

That automatically influences my lungs even if it doesnt directly influence them. I could never live in a constant wet environment. The dampness infiltrates everything.

I havent lived out of NY, but different parts of the state that have slightly different changes in the climate make a difference.

I am sure much of it is some type of allergy like when I go to the clinic in NYC. Not everyone responds the same to different climates. I think that is why its hard to pinpoint if there is a difference & if so for positive or negative.

Even tho I hate the rain, I dont know if complete dryness like out West I would like either. Hard to say unless you try & have enough time to really adapt.

Andrew never had a constant productive cough for his first 9 years in Michigan. However, we were transferred to North Carolina in January of this year and since this past May he has developed the colored, productive cough, etc. However, his lung function has not gone down. Yeah!!!!
In Michigan, if he grew something that required antibiotics, a round of orals would do the trick. Well, now in NC, the orals are not cutting it...he's been on them since the end of June. So, I'm waiting for a call from our bronchoscopy nurse to schedule that and a PICC line so we can try some IV meds. I don't know if it's climate change or coincidence. I'm trying not to blame it on North Carolina because that would just give me one more reason to want to go home to Michigan!
Thanks for posting the question...very interesting!

I recently started a thread about this very topic-I don't see people discussing it often so it really interests me.
For me, regardless of where it is, or humidity-the warmth is the best. I have a strong asthmatic component and the cold is hard on me. I grew up in Pennsylvania and as a child I spent every winter in Florida-I was so healthy and only needed IVs every few years. I think this is what really got me through each winter and each year.
Now I live on New Jersey full time and oh goodness-wnter is just so tough on me. When I'm outside, within 5 mintues my throat is closing up from the temperature.
Its a matter of time until we move, at least for part of the year.

I do much better in warm climates. I moved from NJ to CA 2.5 years ago, and I haven't had a sore throat or bad cold since I moved out here. BUT my lung function has gone down since I've lived here. So who knows if my lung function would have decreased had I stayed in NJ... I think about this alot. I live north in a valley, so when there is bad atmospheric crap floating around, it's hard for it to move out of the slope of the valley. that could be it too...
