CF and Farms

as long as there isnt crops growing there i dont see a problem.... but the pesticides used to spray crops contain b. cepacia... ive heard that it has been outlawed to use that sort of pesticide but who knows for sure which farmer still does or not...

cepacia has also been seen in rotting vegetables such as onions, tomatoes, potatoes etc.

A few years ago I read an article about how studies were being condcuted using cepacia to prevent rot in sugar beet crops. Or maybe there was a product out there that was used to prevent it. Kinda freaked me out 'cuz that's a major crop in our area.

We have farm fields surrounding our property and just last week I was sitting in the backyard with my son watching the farmer next door spray the soybeans. My son collects little John Deere tractors so he loves it when the real farmers show up next door. And I was thinking how quaint to be able to sit in your backyard and watch the farmers - very Martha Stewart-ish. Well, I could just hit myself sometimes, how can I be so stupid as for it not to ever enter my mind to go inside the house while he was doing the spraying. Stupid, stupid, stupid. We're just sitting out there breathing in who knows what. Ahhg. Now I have to call him and ask him what brand pesticide he was using and if it contains any b. cepacia!!!Reminds me of when I was a child and my brother and I would run behind the mosquito fogging truck in order to get the fogger stuff on us. I'm sure I lost a few brain cells from that little trick.

This is a perfect example of even when things are going well in our health....with CF the simple things can become an issue. You were just sitting there enjoying something simple with your son and if he didnt have CF you still wouldnt need to second guess yourself. Sadly just being able to enjoy life does become difficult. Its not always easy to balance the joy & the safety, but dont beat yourself up over it.

You were just sitting there enjoying something simple with your son and if he didnt have CF you still wouldnt need to second guess yourself. Sadly just being able to enjoy life does become difficult.
