cf and kidneys

Hi I am from Greece 28 years old and i have cf. Since February i was pretty good with 85% lung capacity.In february i was diagnosed with problem in my kidneys.Is this common in other cf pattients and what is the solution?<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

i have kidney disease as well. I am diabetic as well but my diabetes dr. feels that the kidney disease must be somehow connected to cf rather than diabetes. He said he had a previous cf/diabetes patient with a similar situation. I spill albumin (protein) in my urine and am taking an oral medicine in an attempt to minimize future kidney damage. I have not heard of others mentioning kidney disease associated with cf, however.

just an aside, i don't suppose you have been to any of the olympic events have you?

My name is Mary.I was in Athens for the Olympics (not to compete!!!).But my husbant was a runner in the torch relay.
I went to a doctor before 2 days for my kidneys (just for a second opinion) and he made me very upset. He said that in the future i ll have to do technical support for my kidneys, that transplant is out of the question and etc.
The problem with my kidneys is from February 2004.
My temporary doctor gave me some med's and he believes that we can control the problem.
I am so confused and the worst that now i am loosing my hope.

Why is transplant out of the question?

He said that the medicines for the transplantation are too strong<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0"><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">. My both parents are still young and they can give me healthy kidneys.But the fuct is that i am i level 2 now. I realy don't know what to do.

Hi Tanya,
I am 31 and I also have kidney problems. I have had CF related diabetes for 6 yrs now...and the doctor cant believe my kidneys are already having problems because I've done so well with controlling my blood sugars. I am also taking oral meds (enalapril) to help with the protein in the urine. So it sounds like it is becoming more common...and docs just arent aware of it as much....<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

what type of diet do you folllow? The cf's needs the oposite from the diabetes. I have a big problem with this item and i am only 46 kg (28 years old female)

I didnt change my diet exactly. I did cut down on artificial sweets...such as candy, soda, etc. I also cut down on my carb intake per meal...such as less potatoes, pasta, breads (these are all high in carbohydrates) I have learned to spread out my snacks throughout the day. Not to eat so much at once. I'm on oral medication for the diabetes as well...not insulin. From the beginning my doctors told me...DO NOT change your diet...regulate the medicine to help control the sugars....and thats what I have done.
