My docs have always said that I have little lungs. and that they don't have much room to flow air. Are CF lungs like this? It amost like my lungs are the size of a childs.

I haven't been told that, but I feel like I have a similar issue. I don't get much air through my lungs at all.. Like, even compared to other CFers... When I go to the doctor, and I do my lung function thing, he always says it looks like I shouldn't even be alive.. But the funny thing is, I am healthier than a lot of Cfers.. So my doc always compares my lung functions against my own from a long time ago, instead of comparing them to other people's .. if that makes sense. I think as long as you are getting the air that your body needs, it's okay that they are smaller.

AKA,

As far as size goes, no CF lungs shouldn't be any different than a non-CF lung. What happens as we get more and more sick they get fibrotic and "tighten up" and function smaller than they are. Did a pulmonogist tell you that? Have you had a total lung function done in the "body box" so they can determine that more conclusively?

The only guess I have as to why your doctor told you CF lungs were smaller is cause our airways dont have much room to breathe because of all the scarring and mucus blocking them. Our lungs are actually the same size as normal lungs...the airways however are actually larger and mis-shapen, the mucus makes them bigger and inflamed but we dont know theyre bigger because the space we use to breathe is actually smaller. Im not sure if im explaining this well, Im trying to explain how mine looked when I saw them under a microscope. Usually CF lungs way a little more than normal lungs as well because of all the mucus inside them.
You can see pictures of my lungs under the transplant area of the forum. Theyre a little gross but its really cool! I hope this helps!
