I went thru this same problem, about 3 years ago I wondered Jax my lab mutt wasnt the best for my health. So I deicided to give him to a friend. After that I had the house scrubbed clean top to bottom. For the next 3 weeks nothing changed I didnt notice my numbers improving a cough going away, anything BUT I was totally depressed without my best friend and companion. It was terriable. Jax was 3 at the time and he was my only companion when my ex would work till 10 and 11 at nights. I got Jax back thank goodnes and I would never let him go again for the world. Now we have 2 boxer babies added to our family <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I vacumme 2-3 times a week, have the hepa filters in each room and try(i said try) to bathe them once a week. I havent noticed any difference in my lungs at all since weadded the dogs both of them actually. I think of course each person reacts different to everything and even with my so called allgeries to dogs they dont seem to affect me.

While growing up I had a black & a yellow lab. My brother has a black lab now and my daughter loves it and has had no problems the few times she has been around it. We were going to get a dog that doesn't shed and is hypoallergenic that much but pretty expensive. My wife and I have always talked about getting a lab and I think that as you have stated as long as you keep the house clean (which believe me) she does we won't have any issues.
