CF Centers in Philly

My boyfriend and I are moving to Philly the end of August. Does
anyone know of any good CF centers there? I know he's asked his
doctors, but any info anyone has would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks!

UPenn. (supposed to be one of the best hospitals in the country)
My BF goes there and sees Dr. Hadjiliadis.
I go to the UPenn tx center and see (ironically enough) Dr. Hadjiliadis.
I'm still adjusting but they seem like a good group of doctors.

There is also the (Drexel) Hahnemann CF center.
I haven't heard much about this one, so I can't really give any advice.

I see Dr. Holsclaw who is one of the doctors at UPenn (actually practices out of Presby Hospital which I believe is where all UPenn ADULT CFers are seen). The chair of the group is Dr. Lipson.

Candice, Is Dr. Hadjiliadis on of the other doctors at Presby?

Dr. Holsclaw is a world reknown doctor. He's old and doesn't work a full week but is very responsible with his patients. He's extremey thorough and knowledgeable about the latest and greatest research. I find the group to be more responsive than proactive than I like for my own taste but they respond well to being strong armed and doing what I ask ... eventually. Be prepared to be proactive with your care. If you want to sit back then you might need to travel to NYC where they have very proactive approaches.

Dr. Sexualer (sp?) is no longer at Hahnemann. I'm not sure if someone has taken over the practice to continue a CF clinic at Hahnemann. I heard he was moving to NJ. I hope that another option than UPenn still exists into the future because it's never good when care becomes a monopoly.

Good luck. WHere are you moving from?

The UPenn CF Adult clinic is at Presb. for whatever reason. (seems odd to have all those pulmonary things spread out so much but have the same doctors there)
Dr. Hadjiliadis should be one of the other doctors there at the Adult clinic.
There was also a doctor robertson (sp?) and Lipson (not sure if he's CF, CF/tx, or just tx)

Hello,
I'm not sure if you're interested in
going to a children's hospital for care, but the CF center at St.
Christopher's is great! I have an unusual case and was diagnosed at
18, and they have treated me according to my age all along the way.
I see Dr. Laurie Varlotta, and she always takes the time to
ask me what I think of different issues, and really listens to my
concerns. Hope this helps and that you have an easy move.
I was at St. Christopher's till I was 20 years old. Then I got married and had to transfer to adult care.
But I had Dr. Schidlow there-he was one of the pioneers in Cf discovery way back in the 70s. And he's a great doctor. I was very attached to him-he even came to my wedding. I still miss him!
I have also had dealings with Laurie Varlotta, and she is also an excellent doctor. VERY good bedside manner. The whole team there is excellent, the go above and beyond. St. Chris's was really a family to us. I still remember the names of all the secretaries, the child life people, the janitor!
I know they will take older patients, but once you get into the life stage of marriage-they let you go b/c then there's so many new issues to deal with. Not to mention I was moving to the New York area, further from Philly.

I go to Hahnamann. In center city Phila. Dr. Sexauer left a few months ago and Dr. Ko took over for him. She is great, i really like her. I was told about U.of Penn but i was also told they have way too many cf patients and the wait is unbelievably long in the waiting room and with b.cepacia i dont want that . I also hate change and when i heard another Dr. was taking over for Dr. Sexauer i figured let me see what she's all about, and if i like her, i'll stay. Well, i do like her ,so i'll be staying

My boyfriend goes to the Penn transplant center. He used to
go to Hahnemann when he was a kid. I think you have a lot of
great choices here. Good luck to both of you.

Dr. Holsclaw is the one I saw when i was diagnosed as a baby back in 1977 - interesting to hear he's still around! I don't live in Philly anymore though.

Shannon, That's crazy?! I think I'll print out one of your pictures from you blog and show it to him next time I'm there. It will probably make his day. He's such a good man and so smart!
