CF Clinic in Spokane, WA

Anyone have any info on the CF clinic in Spokane, WA. My husband is military and we are looking at an assignment here. We were already stationed here from 99-02, so we're familiar with the area, but it was before our son with CF was born.

Thanks!

I go to the spokane clinic (Dr McCarthy) and they are great. I was at the Seattle (univerisity of washington clinic) and I feel as if Spokane has done so much better with my treatment. They are WAY more preventative than Seattle was.
They are in the Sacred Heart Doctors building - Kendra is the nurse and she is fantastic too.
Let me know if you have any more questions!

Thanks, Marci! I called today and spoke with someone who was able to answer some of my questions and also left a message for the nurse to call me back. I'm glad to hear that they are preventative! Is this clinic/dr our only option for CF care in the area?

I'm in Spokane too. Dr. McCarthy has been my doctor since I was born. He is the only ticket in town, but that's fine, because he's great at what he does. I had a similar experience in Seattle. They seemed a bit less attentive over there. The only complaint I have is the parking situation. haha.

Yep-I HATE that parking garage! But since I only go quarterly I can deal.

Dr. McCarthy is great-I suppose there are pulmonologists in town, but as far as I know-Dr. McCarthy is the only accredited CF center here. I have nothing but good reports for them!

The only thing I liked better in Seattle was that you stayed in 1 room the whole time and the doctors, etc came to you-it seems like less chance of CF patients coming in contact with other's CF germs. But-I just make sure not to touch my face and wash my hands when I am done there.

Do they put you into a room right away?

Do they keep people who are culturing bugs away from those who aren't?

Do they gown, mask, or glove?

Is the doctor open to suggestions and willing to listen to the patient, or in my case parent?

How easy is it to get a "sick" appointment if you need one? They told me they only have clinic on Thursdays.
Can you email either the doc or the nurse with question?

Do they put you into a room right away? Yes -they take you in and weigh you and do blood pressure, oxygen, etc. You then go into another room where you do PFT's - then to an exam room with the doctor.

Do they keep people who are culturing bugs away from those who aren't? Yes-they are pretty good at it. I am rarely in the waiting room with other people (maybe like once in 6 years) and I just don't touch anything...also I believe they have cepacia patients on another day.

Do they gown, mask, or glove? I can't remember.....I think if you are having an exacerbation they would...they are really good with washing hands though

Is the doctor open to suggestions and willing to listen to the patient, or in my case parent? I am the patient and I am 35, they have always been open to my suggestions

How easy is it to get a "sick" appointment if you need one? They told me they only have clinic on Thursdays. I usually just call up and they start me on antibiotics based on my last culture. I am 2 hrs away from the clinic though so it is better for me if I just start the antibiotics from home and that usually does it. So far I am only on orals though

Can you email either the doc or the nurse with question? Not that I am aware of-but I would love this
