CF patients having contact with other CFers

So, I know someone who has CF..and we've known eachother for a while now and we always talk about the day we'll see eachother...
Of course, we know the precautions that CFers need to take on a daily basis, let alone surrounded by another CFer.
The thing is...I know that other CFers are around eachother and I know that other CFers sometimes have get togethers with other CFers.
Also, we both only have Pseudomonas..we both got tested at our last doctors appointments..
but what I was wondering was..

1)Could we possibly catch different strands from eachother?

2)Even when CFers get together, do you guys still do the "3 feet rule?"

3)Has anyone had any experiences with being around other CFers, and if yes, were there any negative results such as becoming sick?

Any feedback would be reallllyy appreciative!!
Thanks so much guys <3 <3

I used to be friends with another CFer. We always stayed 3 feet or more from each other. No negative effects that I know of.

Yea Ive seen pictures, but never done it mysefl, mainly b/c my bugs are bad and I would feel horrible if I transferred them to someone. But the pictures normally are outside and 3 feet away, but ive also seen people eating at restaurants etc... they just try to sit as far away as possible. Cross contamination is true in some caes, but there are tons of family where each kid with cf has a different bug and for some reason the other sibling hasnt cultured it... so cross contaminationto me, is a bit of a mystery.

Me personally, wouldnt be to worried if you both cutltured pseudo, if there was mrsa or NTM or b. cep involved I would be more hesistant. but thats just me

Hi there,

I spent many years attending CF camps. I just recently stopped volunteering because I had kids...but I plan to go back to be a counselor again when I can.

I believe if you take the proper precautions, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. As long as neither of you has a strong bug like MRSA or cepacia, the risk is much less severe. It is possible that you could spread your different strains of pseudo to each other. But if you guys abide by the 3-foot rule, I think it should be just fine.

I have two good CF friends that recently became a couple even.

I am a firm believer that the relationships that you have with other CFers are very important. That connection of being face-to-face is really great.

Just a ditto to what Leah said. I went to CF camp in my late teens and early 20s. I also went to the teen/adult retreat offered by the CFRI. I stopped going due to having kids and also having bugs that were resistant to just about all abx. If my sensitivities continue to change (I'm now sensitive to multiple abx) I'm not opposed to going to CF camp again or to the retreat.

And I agree that cross infection is a mystery. My brother had CF and I never cultured any of his bugs while he was alive. He died when I was 16 and I didn't start culturing pa till I was around 20 or so.

When interacting w/ other CFers we were always careful but we did hug and I'm not sorry we did. Nobody coughed on anyone else or served food or shared stuff.

I say do it and have fun! I was good friends for a while with a CFer who had a tx 10 years ago. We worked out at the gym together and he was such a motivation. I also went to disneyland with 2 ppl with CF when I graduated HS.

My nephew, with CF, is engaged to a young lady who also has CF. They have caught each others 'bugs', but they do kiss and stuff, which I would assume that wouldn't be your case

I agree that bacteria transmission is a huge mystery! My two daughters do not culture the same bacteria, for the most part. They do both culture MRSA. That is the only thing my 11 year old daughter cultures. My 12 year old cultures PA, B. Multivorans and MAC!
