OMG guys I am so totally lost. I know nothing about diabetes. Today I met with the dietician and the diabetes education nurse and I'm so lost.

I have been having blood sugar problems b/c of my steriods. Well even though they weaned me off them it never went away, so now I have CFRD.

They started me on metformin. So far it seems to be keeping my sugars perfect.

But upon meeting with the dietician Im totally confused and lost. I don't want to give up soda, or anything else for that matter. And why should I have to if I eat it and it doesn't make my blood sugar that much higher??? I dunno. Like I just feel so confused and stressed about this now.

I know nothing about carbs... someone PLEASE HELP and give me a little diabetes 101!!!!

I'm not sure why they would say you should stop the calorie dense foods. CFRD is not too bad to manage once you get the hang of it. My CF center does not manage my CFRD though, and endocrinologist does.

I have an insulin pump and just check my blood sugar level before meals and dial in how many carbs I'm eating. The pump does the calculations and it pumps in the correct amount of insulin to cover.

Don't get overwhelmed it's managable

Have you tried the CFF site? There is a CFRD packet that you can download. It is very helpful. I did not want to give up soda either. It can be done though! The only time I drink it now is if I am having a low and no other fast acting carbs are around. And that it is a small miracle for me! Jessica, don't let it get you too overwhelmed ... learn as much as you can (at your own pace)and learn how your body responds to what you are eating. I have learned a lot about nutrition and my body because of CFRD. Counting carbs, blood glucose checks, hypo's and needle pokes are no fun. But it sounds like you are taking a pill so that should lessen the burden. You can do this! Small steps and perseverance ... Keep your chin up <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">
