Hello all, I wonder if having CFRD means that we can no more eat sugars despite shooting insulin? Also what do most CFers take rapid or long acting insulin?

I've had cf related diabetes for 24 years now and i have always taken long acting insulin. The key to eating and maintaining good blood sugars is knowing when the insulin peaks ( works hardest). I have things pretty much down to a routine, to where i know when i can have sweets and how much to have. I check my blood sugars alot ( 6-7 times a day) and that helps me to keep track of how things are going . Of coarse when i get sick the whole routine changes, and i have to adjust to that for a while, but it always goes back to "normal" eventully. I takes time to notice how different foods affect your blood sugar and what amounts work for you, but once you get the hang of it, it isnt too bad.~Diane 39 cf / diabetes / b.cepacia
