My sugars have been borerline for a couple years now but the only time i've gone on insulin is when i've taken prednisone. We'll, in the last four or 5 days I've had two sugars pretty high, both early afternoon. One was 179 and one was 187. I hadn't been checking regulary for a couple months but have been for the last few days, due to my impending Endocrine appointment. Its a little unusual for me to have sugars that high within one week. The others have ranged from 137 to 97, all taken 1.5-2 hours after eating.

Today I felt real tired, before and after lunch and i think some of it is due to the sugars. Question: Could taking insulin regularly help my lung function/ pft's?

In my experience yes, taking it regularly will help your lungs and pft's.

If I forget to take my all-day, background insulin (which rarely happens), I do feel very tight in the lungs and it's harder to breathe. There have been days when I've not taken enough insulin, and the same thing happens. It's very uncomfortable for me, so I stay on top of my CFRD to avoid things like this, especially on days when I'm scheduled to do a PFT. It's quite the balancing act that CFRD! Good luck!

Sounds like you and I are in the same boat! I just had my OGTT done Tues, and it came back as "just over the border" (my numbers have been similar to what you described) and next month we will be deciding what med to put me on (pill or 24 hr long acting shot of some kind).

When I had gestational diabetes, SOB, tightness in my chest and exhaustion were my biggest symptoms, and even now, I can tell when my sugars are elevated. If it's bad enough, the inflamation (or whatever it is) can last through the next day.

I just got home from the hospital after 10 days of treatment. They have me on a pretty high dose of prednisone so my blood sugars are rather elevated. That being said, they decided to diagnose me with CFRD without fasting hyperglycemia, meaning my blood sugars are good in the morning after sleeping but increase during the day. I was sent to an a diabetes specialist and now they have me taking a lot of insulin on a daily basis. Is this necessary? I don't see the results of not taking the insulin and having slightly high blood glucose (mid 200's). I don't feel any different whether it is high or low so what is the point?

This CFRD stuff is new to me so if you have any personal experience or information you can pertain to, that would be great!

I was sent to an a diabetes specialist and now they have me taking a lot of insulin on a daily basis. Is this necessary? I don't see the results of not taking the insulin and having slightly high blood glucose (mid 200's). I don't feel any different whether it is high or low so what is the point?
