Hey There Amy,
NORMAL - for a NON diabetic is anywhere from 80-120. If you have been fasting your blood sugar SHOULD be below 100 - or at least near 100. I am told when m morning fasting sugar is 115 that it is high.
Post meals your sugar for a NON diabetic should be 80-120. After meals a NON diabetics blood sugar normally does not elevate about 180.
It is possible to feel symptoms of low blood sugar at 75-80 as well as obviously lower. It is also possible to feel the effects of high blood sugar at 140 as well as higher. Each person is different alot of it will depend on what your body is used too. By that I mean if your blood sugar runs low ALOT then it is not crazy to think that you will not experience symptoms of low blood sugar until your sugar is in the 50-40 range. That is only because your body is used to functioning on low sugar that it takes longer for your body to recognize the difference. The same theory would apply if you are normally having high blood sugars (say above 200) you may feel you have low blood sugar at 120 (which is normal).
As for diabetics -
Normal is 80-140. They prefer a fasting sugar below 100 - but it is at times higher than 100. Post meals your sugars are hopefully in the normal range - but your sugars should NOT exceed 200.
IF you are not diagnosed diabetic and your sugars fasting are over 100 and post meals over 200 you should have your sugars checked to see if you are diabetic because according to any endocrine doc I have seen those values put you at risk for being diabetic.
Take Care,
Lindsey
