Cheapest Online Place for Meds?

My mom has Medicare Part D and is currently in the donut-hole & she had asked me to check online to see where she could find meds at a good price, so I thought I'd see if you guys had any luck in finding a web-site that offers meds at a pretty good price.

At her local pharmacy, her Prevacid is $300+ a month, which isn't much compared to our meds, I realize, but it's alot for her & she has approx 10 additional meds to buy.
Thanks in advance<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Lynda,

Your mom may be paying for medications that have alternatives that are cheaper and work in much the same way. Hospitals often switch a person to a cheaper medication called a therapeutic alternative to the original medication. This is a medication the the hospital pharmacy committee has presented to the physicians as an alternative to an expensive medication. An example is Lipitor being substituted with simvostatin. Of course your mothers doctor must agree with and perform the change in her prescriptions. I found a website that does this function. It is called MedicareSaver.com. It not only will help you choose a Medicare part d plan for next year. It may just show her how to reduce her drug costs in general. Remember big drug companies want our senior parents on their expensive drugs. This is why they spend so much money marketing to doctors who write the prescriptions. This site is the first place I have seen that is actually trying to reverse that trend to keep people out of the donut hole.

Thanks for that website! I will check into it.

I did go to Medicare.gov and found a listing of Part D plans that do offer coverage during the donut hole period for generics only, which is better then nothing.
Like you alluded to, she's kind of SOL for this year, but could sign up for a different plan next year.

Lynda,

One of the really cool things about MedicareSaver.com is that it prints a letter to your doctor that will help you open discussions about medications you could use to lower your costs. This could be a good option to help solve her Medicare Part D problems now. My dad's doctor was very open to changing medicines when I told him he is having trouble affording them. There are thousands of medications and hundreds do the exact same thing but are not marketed because the drug companies don't make as much money on those cheaper drugs. Doctors are subject to good marketing just like everything else.

Hope you find medicaresaver.com helpful. If I find any other sites like it, I will forward them.
