I started going every week. I love it. And my Cf doc really reccomends it. She thinks alot of cfers should do it b/c of all our coughing we get really out of whack. Its also supposed to help keep the intercostal muscles good for breathing too. Now that I'm preg my back kills me all the time, so I started up again. My mother always took me when I was growing up-about once a month. My insurance stopped covering it for a while so I stopped, but it covers it now so I go as much as I can.
I love it!-Try it.

I recommend it highly. I have gone on/off for a few years & it makes a big difference in various ways. Everything from my lungs to my gallbladder to siatic (sp?) nerve. Of course its important to get someone you trust & are comfortable with. I also know that my chiropractor ALWAYS wants to know what steroids of any kind I am on. He says it makes a difference in his treatment plan. FYI on that !

I highly recommend chiropractic. I've gone once a month since 1998 and can see a difference in my lung function if I don't get regularly adjusted. I will say that every chiropractor has a slightly different style. Definitely go with one that is recommended to you and don't be nervous. Tense muscles do not allow the joints below to be adjusted well and further injury can result. It will take a few weeks to see noticeable differences so don't expect a miracle cure after one visit. In fact, you might be in some pain for the first few days after your first few adjustments. Keep going for a few weeks, then if you decide you don't like the technique or manner - try someone else. Don't right off chiropractic.

Be wary of someone who only practices 'activator' or 'network' technique. Actuator is a good tool should you have an area that is in spasm or just isn't being adjusted well with the hand but nothing replaces the healing power of human touch IMHO. 'Networking' I'm curiously cautious about believing. A little of it is fine but I'd be hard pressed to agree to only networking (which is the way networking is supposed to be practiced). Actually, I don't ever go to anyone that only uses one technique. Also, since I suffer hemoptysis I have to have a chiro. that can adjust necks in seated positions if it's a bad day for lying on my back...most days I can't lie on my back without starting a bleed. Good techniques are: Palmer (a method as well as a really good chiro. school), Gonstead, Thompson, Cox-flexion and Activator (again in moderation). I find the chiro's that seem to use it exclusively are usually women. Is this because they can't adjust people that are larger than them with their own hands/bodies? I personally prefer male chiropractors. It's also good to go to a chiro that also offers massage because they are most powerful used in conjunction.

Finally, frozen peas work great as ice packs if you have some residual soreness after the adjustments.

Let us know what you think!

Well I just got back.. I made a quick pit stop back at the health food store and did a shot of wheat grass.. (supposed to be good for you) and I got a huge glass of carrot and apple juice.. fresh squeezed.

My whole family uses this chiropractor... I am hoping I can continue to use him... I have to find out what my co pay is first though..

Today when I went.. he almost wouldn't touch me.. He was worried about my osteopenia issues ... my steroids and then he said because I have that problem with my basilar artery..... that I almost exclude myself from care..

Anyway.. He said I have tight tight muscle cramping in my shoulders... but only when I am standing... but when I lay down.. I am relaxed and the muscles are looser..... He didn't find to many issues otherwise.. He slightly adjusted me and then he put the TENS On me.. which stimulates the circulation to the muscles....

Then off to the traction room I went. I laid on this table that locked my neck into this thing and it stretched it out it almost felt like I was having my body pulled apart from the neck down...

I have to go back on Wed... I guess I will see... I don't know if I can afford to keep going three times a week.... I will have to see

Lauren I have no idea what techniques you are talking about.. you are talking way above my head... sorry.. .I hope I am going to a good guy.. he seemed nice enough

I have been going to a chiropractor since I moved to Florida in 1980. I think all Chiropractors are good with all the various types of techniques they practice.

An activator is an instrument that can adjust you and every chiro has one. I prefer an activator treatment vs tradional manipulation because it has less of an impact on the body. I also have had maual adjustments which work great. It all depends on the chiro's touch. Some are aggressive and others are not.

The best kind of Chiro that I would go to is one that practices kinesiology. Just my experience.

Since you have adrenal issues, I bet you would greatly benefit from acupuncture or acupressure treatments. They would help to balance out your adrenal glands.

When I was weaning off steroids eight years ago, I had had a chiro help me boost up my adrenal glands by a vitamin that contained raw adrenal gland. If you are interested, I can find it on the net. The reason why I went this route was there was no guarantees if I would be able to stay off the pred so I wanted to get as strong internally as possible. It worked, I was able to stay off pred for over five years. Then after my second transplant, I no longer have to take prednisone. That is another story

when I was on prednisone, I did get mild back adjustments but i told them to be very gentle.

I definitely feel there is a benefit to go for treatments and if they have a massage therapist on staff all the better.

I get a free massage through my insurance along with adjustments. I had a mild car accident last year. I cannot say no to a free massage.
