Cinical Trials

Anyone know how long it typically takes for a drug/treatment to go
from phase I to being approved by the FDA. I guess it may
very...but it seems like there are some exciting new treatments in
the pipeline, some of which are already in phase III. I'm
particularly intersted in the Aztreonam Lysinate (not sure on the
spelling) as I have PA infection and Tobi irritates my
lungs.<br>

Did you realize "Cinical" was mispelled??
It can be taken as two words, "Clinical", as you intended, and "Cynical", which would translate to "Mocking a Trial".
Also, whenever you refer to something operated by the Government, don't expect immediate results, unless you brought your "Red Tape Scissors" with you.
I don't follow on new drug treatments, but you may find that info on the net as a search, or in medical journals. (Or, no one else here happens to know, asking your CF doc about any news might help.)

My doctor said it may be available in about a year. They have had trouble completint the clinical study be cause the pharmacutical company has very strict guidelines. It is hard to get a clinical study to be completed with CFers because our health changes so much. I was on this clinical study and had to be pulled out the day I was suppose to start the drug/placebo because my staph infection flared up from being on the tobi for a month. The pharmacutical company didn't want to play with my health so they pulled me. I was pretty upset but I guess I have to do what is best for my health.

JF, I too am excited about some of these drugs in phase III for my hubbie but I do recall that they can still take years. I know the CFF would know better than anyone if you called and asked, or emailed. P.S. Fred's harmless <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I think there is such a thing as compassionate release. Since CF is considered an orphan disease(affecting less than a certain population)clinical trials can be started up quickly. I know that Pulmozyme went through because of compassionate release. IT was believed to save lives. Do not quote me on the exact phrase but what I am saying applied ten years ago.

Thanks, the info has been helpful. And yes I did mean Clinical Trials. I could be wrong but Tobi and Pulmozyme are probably on the pipeline because they are phase 5 or already approved.

Oh yes and don't forget to keep in mind how costly conducting clincal trials is.

Hundreds of millions of dollars are often involved.
