is it really that big of a deal if I take it when I take my other meds or with food?

I have tried EVERYTHING I can to figure out a way to fit it in on an empty stomach and can't -unless I starve and don't take my vitamins.

I can't do it when I first wake up b/c I just got done doing my tube feeds. (I wake up at 8). I am normally hungry for breakfast around 10ish. Thats normally when I take my morning meds too. Then I normally just eat throughout the rest of the day. Then we have dinner around 6. I have a snack around 8 after I put my daughter to bed. Then I go to bed and start my feed at 10:30. This is also when I take my night time meds (this is when I take my nexium as well)....

I just don't know if it really matters or will I just not get the "full" effect of the drugs?

I wasn't aware of it being important to take either of those on an empty stomach. Emily takes Bactrim for her staph exacerbations and she gets very nauseous if she takes it on an empty stomach and I know Cipro makes me throw up unless I have food in my stomach when I take it.

In checking the Rx info I have from Emily's last Bactrim rx it says 'may be taken alone or with food' It mentions that for best results it should be taken at the same time daily, though. I don't have any rx info on Cipro (it's been a while since I've taken it) but according to drugs.com it can be taken with or without food as well.

hum. I just know that each bottle has a label that says "take on empty stomach". Then the pharmacist told me that I should not take it with food, with vitamins, or with an anacid.

Bactrim prescribing information No mention of needing to take it either with or without food is there at all that I could find. I'd think if it was essential either way to the function of the medication there'd be note of it in the instructions for how to take it.

Med interactions are listed (there are several.) I am not surprised that it's recommended to take vitamins separately; that's a basic recommendation with abx in general I think and it's in there somewhere that it can affect a couple different vitamin levels.
