Cleaning the Eflow

I do not follow Foundation Care's suggestion because they recommeneded sterilization only once a week. I want a sterile neb everytime I use it. I follow emily65roses mentioned method and then leave the plastic parts submerged in alchohol and the head in a separate container in alcohol.

Mandi, If you are going to raise a stink you should take Pari on not just regarding the E-flow. Last I checked they were still saying on the pamphlet that comes with Pari LC Plus neb cups to wash in soap and water and let air dry. It is for this reason that I don't trust a neb cup in a hospital unless I see it come out of the packaging. And after learning of all the crap that's in the hospital. Thank you anyway - I don't want the nurse even assembling the neb cup (aka touching the mouthpiece with mrsa hands). Just hand me the damn thing and the med and I'll do it myself.

I rinse the head w/ tap water and then soak it in alcohol. The alcohol will kill whatever might be in the tap water. I haven't had problems w/ clogging although I have after a few months had to get new heads because of leaking.

I use both regular PARI nebuliser and E flow daily and I boil my nebs after each and every use.

I boil the E flow aerosole head and parts in distilled water after use and boil the regular PARI nebs in regular water. I've never had any problems with any neb parts (either regular PARI or E flow) not lasting as long because of frequent boiling or "leaking". The only problems I've had is the E Flow head blocking (but that's another issue).

When you all say that you soak your aerosole head in alcohol, do you all mean methylated spirits ? Or isopropyl ? ?? I'm not sure if they're exactly the same. How often do you change the alcohol ?

Just so you guys know, when PARI makes cleaning instructions, they think about their largest customer base, asthmatics. CF is only a small portion of their business.

So rinsing/cleaning with tap water isn't an issue for asthmatics at all. I know as CFer's (myself included) we seem to think these companies revolve around us, but this simply isn't the case.

So it's up to US to be proactive and inform ourselves of CFF guidelines for cleaning (CFF guidelines wouldn't exist of PARI got it right on their instructions) and to speak to our doctors about cleaning guidelines if we aren't clear on why the CFF suggests what they do.
