Cold Tips

Rotandroll, colds are my speciality!! I have tried everything there is and have pretty much got it down to a science. Everyday I take a boatload of vitamins which I really feel strengthen my system. Start with Emergen-C (1,000 mg) of Vit C. Its a flavored fizzy drink,..you just add water. Then I take Optizinc 30 mg, Vitamin C 1,000 mgs, NAC 600 mg, folgard for calcium (bones), iron, B-complex, Biotin 1000mg-to make my hair strong. fish oil, and something called Garden of Life-Perfect Food-which is really ground up vegetables. Then I get a prescription from my DR for a vit called Vita Con Forte which is a multi vit.
Ok, now I know this sounds silly but I wash my hands about 50 times a day. I will ask ahead if someone is sick and I will NEVER eat off someone elses fork or spoon or drink from their water or soda.
When I do get sick I make a pot of chick soup. Drink it as hot as you can and I sometimes add Tabasco which clears my sinuses (sp)?. Then I buy lots of fresh oranges because Orange juice makes me puke. I drink a ton of Green tea (decaf) with lemon and honey. I have a vapor machine that I breath into (add Vicks). I rub Vicks all over my chest-front and back. Besides that I just veg on the couch and watch TV till it passes. When something wants to hit---I feel there is notheing I can do but fight and wait it out.

If i feel something coming on , especially if it starts in the throat or the nose, i start using a saline rinse to keep my sinus's as clean as possible. I gargle with listerine many times during the day and night to help clean the bacteria from my throat ( this has helped a lot since i started doing it).
I also start taking Vit. C 1000 mg. 3 times a day. The body does not store Vit.C so if you only take it once it isnt helping at the middle or the end of the day. Lots of fluids and try to get plenty of rest at night.

I take 1000mg vitamin c every 4 hours, studies shown that is the only way it helps to shorten a cold, 1xday etc doesnt help (though it is important maintenance for your levels). Drink tons water. Saline rinses. Aggressive phsio.

Also, new I have added this year is excercise, short of dying or utter exhaustion I try to go, just really easy, light workout etc. I think it helps clear junk out that may have gotten into lungs. Plus it revs up your metabolism so why not also the immune system? I had a cold set in yesterday and I just rested because i was exhausted, this mronig I did a light jog and my nose jsut ran and ran and afterward I felt so much better and now today I can breathe and my sinus congestion is greatly reduced!

Also, new I have added this year is excercise, short of dying or utter exhaustion I try to go, just really easy, light workout etc. I think it helps clear junk out that may have gotten into lungs. Plus it revs up your metabolism so why not also the immune system? I had a cold set in yesterday and I just rested because i was exhausted, this mronig I did a light jog and my nose jsut ran and ran and afterward I felt so much better and now today I can breathe and my sinus congestion is greatly reduced!
