Well ashtons cough has gotten dramatically better its still there but hes not choking over it... But i called the Doctor yesterday to update them on how he was doing... Which he is retracting more than usual so i listened to him and he is very crackly and wheezing on the left side which i can hear through stethescope and slightly when he is breathing.. so they sked if i was comfortble until tomorrow and i am because im in the medical field so i know what to look for and have delt iwth it before.. then they want to see him... i will do anything to extend the amount of time out of the hospital.. it amazes me that 14 dys of IV antibiotics plus 7 days of orapred and his lungs still sound junky and hes running a low grade fever.... Will he always sound like this now?? or will it eventually go away?? well i will update tomorrow after our appointment at 1:30 i just hope when they do an x ray that his pneumonia hasent gotten worse... talk to everyone later!!

well bacteria are rarely eliminated with IV antibiotics - their #s are simply supressed. So after stopping antibiotics, ashton caught a cold, this would have given the bacteria a chance to grow in #s again. this is why antibiotics are probably needed once again (and why the cold season is so tough for CFers) because if in fact the bacteria is growing in large #s again, #s won't go down until they are exposed to antibiotics once again.

To answer your question - will he always sound like this now? Probably not. It sounds like he has a cold and lungs definitely do tend to get worse when there is a viral infection on top of a bacterial infection.

Take care... i hope he gets better soon! Colds+ CF = misery
