Wow! I feel much better now about using sodium chloride, but this its really strange the CF services pharmacist (I spoke directly with a pharmacist) said its "unusual" to do it that way versus with sterile water.

I've always mixed with 2 mL of either sterile water or sodium chloride. Coli makes me cough, but I get more up that way, so I thought that was a good thing if its kinda irritating while I do it.

Thanks, everyone!

Sorry to confuse you even further, but I use both sterile water AND 0.9% sodium chloride. I got this information from my pediatric nutritionist who has given me such great advice over the years. But I HAVE had others tell me differently. I wish a CF chemist or someone who knows their stuff would release information so we would know what to do. I mix 2 mL of sterile in with the colistin to reconstitute it, then add the sodium chloride. Colistin has made a difference in how I feel, and I've been on it for 4 years now I believe.

I used to use the sodium chloride, but in recent years I have been prescribed the sterile water with it. I used to cough my brains out on it with the s.c., but the sterile water doesn't do me the same way. I think it works for me just as well either way, but I prefer not to cough the entire time I'm doing a treatment- I figure I'm keeping more of it in my lungs that way too <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0"> .
