College Residence Life Being SOOO Unaccomidating

In housing selection a few weeks ago (lottery system) my suite was placed in a half-underground room. The windows are small and supposedly there was a flood there (thats why there was all new furniture) and bugs. I'm concerned about mold/mildew since added to the water damage the building is 40 years old. I could deal with the bugs but the poor airflow (present residents said its very bad) and potential mold is making me very concerned about living there.

i've TRIED to work with reslife. they've given me options that are just not working. so far, our best option is to switch with another suite but reslife will not facilitate it. i'm beyond pissed and have no idea what to do. i don't want to burn bridges with them because they were originally kind enough to give me a single . when i originally met with the director i asked to be placed in the one hall that is the newest and has a elevator BECAUSE it is obviously cleaner and an elevator would really help. he said that, 'no offense, but i've only granted one person preference to that building and she had a physical disease " omg.

sorry this turned into a little bit of a vent. but really, for any CFers who've lived on campus... any advice?

EDITED TO ADD: SO, I talked to the reslife and they said they could have the carpets professionally cleaned. They also so that "to the best of our knowledge" there was no flood. BUT... that doesnt meen theres not mold. my mom's coming down soon and were going to meet with residence life. This is helping my whole not liking this school in the first place thing, lol.

ALSO TO ADD: We have no organization on campus for students with physical disabilities. I've spoken to the organization for students with learning disabilities, health services, and undergraduate advising. They send me in a complete circle.

You MUST not stay there. Can you get a doctor's note stating why you cannot stay in an underground room...or a room that has had a flood. Is there a doctor on campus? Surely they must understand the ramifications of a lung patient being in a room like that. When I was in College there was also an ombudsman -- there must be something like that.

Don't worry about burning bridges. This is very important and you can plead your case with facts. If necessary, print out Wikipedia's definition of CF and that should open their eyes.

Does your school have a disability services program that could advocate for you? i know the one at my school was primarily academic oriented but if i had needed help i'm sure they would have done what they could. they were awesome. i would talk to them or go straight to whatever dean oversees the reslife people and complain until someone listens to what a jerk the director was. the comment about having a "physical disease" just shows how ignorant and uneducated he is. seriously that is so ridiculous and i would be so pissed. raise as big a stink as necessary. the last thing you want is to get seriously ill from your room being moldy.

i always lived with good friends in a double room for the 2.5 years i lived on campus and the dorms i lived in had recently been renovated or were on the newer side to begin with so i didn't have to deal with the type of situation your in but i would have been seriously angry had i encountered a res-life director like yours.

hope you get some answers and help soon.

Get a doctor's note explaining the need for you to have living conditions that are free of mold and other contaminents and let them know, politely of course, that by law they must provide any reasonable accomodations due to your illness.
