Collistin, exercise, bad stools, and weight loss

I started inhaled collistin about a month ago and at the same time I also started a PE class-exercising 3 days a week for an hour. Around that time my stools started not being so great-greasy and fatty.
I tried upping my enzymes and that didn't help. I recently got a newer batch of my enzymes (my mom and I were thinking that maybe the old ones were too old even though it said they were still good). So far that hasn't helped but I dropped the dosage to my usual of 4-5 per meal when I got them and now I'm trying 7 with meals to see if it helps.
So with my food obviously not being digested properly and with my PE class I've lost about 10 pounds in a month. Which is very bad because I was already under weight. I'm currently at 90 pounds with a height of 5'6''.
I have increased my amount of food to try and make up for the burnt calories and for the malabsorption but I just keep on losing.
Oh and I'm not feeling so great lung wise. I get short of breath walking upstairs and my cough is worse than usual and last time I had PFTs they were dropping a little. I have a dr appointment on Monday and I'll do another PFT to see where they are now, but my doctor has me on an oral antibiotic right now. So I'm a bit sick which is probably also eating at my weight.
I was wondering if anyone else had any sort of similiar reaction when they took collistin. Also for those that do exercise I was wondering if anyone eats a special something after they exercise to make up for the burnt calories, and if so what is it?
And lastly, what do you all do to stay happy when you're just sick of dealing with all this crap? Because I'm getting so tired of being tired and my normally optimistic attitude is fading at the moment.

hey naomi,

i'm no doctor but it seems to me like you probably have more than one thing going on here...and i would take a wild guess and say the symptoms you're describing don't seem to be related to the collistin.

for me, exercise always makes me feel better and when i've been on good stretches exercising frequently, it improves my digestion too, i think. the most likely thing is that you have an underlying infection going on so that even with all of the hard work you are doing to be healthy, it is affecting you. maybe the one oral and the collistin were not enough.

hope you are feeling better soon. good luck figuring out what is going on.

What jumped out at me is that maybe the oral antibiotic is causing the stool issues. I think it is a normal side effect for many of the antibiotics to cause stomach problems. Cipro always does a number on my stomach.

I've tried Colistin before and didn't notice any stomach problems related to it.
Good luck Monday and I hope your weight gets better<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Collistan made me short of breathe when the doc put me on it, so after probably a month or two on the drug I asked for a different one and to be taken off of that one cause of the short of breathe. It was ridiculous I couldnt walk very far with out breathing so hard it was like I had just ran a marathon or something. Im on Tobi now which is a lot better and Ive been on that for at least 5 yrs now.

I'm on Colistin and I haven't had any problems with it. Regarding the exercise eat soemthing with alot of Carbs after. Exercise should make you feel better. The best thing for me is swimming. I have done it all my life, although right now I'm not. I am having GI problems. Eating little meals all day long may help you gain some weight. Think of something fun coming up to keep your attitude positive. I know how hard it is at times but we are going to Hawaii in May and that makes me look forward to something. Hope you feel better soon. Also, I know alot of the meds make my stomach upset.

Take care

Thanks everyone for the responses. Hopefully my doctor will be able to have some answers? Lynda, the oral antibiotic I'm taking I've only been on for a few days so that wasn't the cause, although that could be adding.
