Computer question--cant get Java

Ok, so a pop-up came on my computer for update of Java 6.0 to Java 6.2, so I uploaded it. Now I keep getting an error report saying: "<i>Several Java Virtual Machines running in same process caused an error"</i> I removed all Java programs from my computer and tried to download again. It keeps saying same message "JAVA (TM) PLUG-IN FATAL ERROR--THE JAVA ROUTINE ENVIRONMENT CANNOT BE LOADED." So I can't even load a new Java--which means I cannot get into chat room!!! AGGGG!!!

Anyone have any suggestions--banging my head into the screen only made me get a new headache!!

i would restart the pc.

if no go, control panel > add/remove programs > on this list, look for the java program in question. highlight it, click remove, follow on-screen prompts. then return to the site and try to get in again. the program will prbably reinstall, hopefully it will install properly.

i knowthat i had a hard time getting on tonight. took a few tries, but i didn't get any arror messages, and i don't think i had to install anything either.
