corrosive effects of salt

I met my (now) wife back in 2000 and we had our first kiss while walking on the beach in front of her condo. I remember when she said "Wow, that was really salty..." I agreed, and added that she tasted salty too, even though she didn't. I couldn't tell her so soon and quickly covered by saying that the wind was strong and that salt had probably sprayed all over us....time to get back and shower. I couldn't pass it off a week later when we were golfing 15 miles inland and had to explain why my hat and shirt had saturn like rings of salt and my ankles looked like I had been playing at the beach from the caked salt.
