coughing blood...

Is it possible that coughing up blood could be related to dried out sinuses?

I'm currently writing this at work....

This morning, as I got up to do my nebs, I had coughed up a few tissues full of blood, then it stopped...nothing like last August.

I'm at work, with what seems to be dried out sinuses, and as I coughed into the tissue, BLOOD!

just wondering before I get alarmed again, if it could be the sinuses this time or not...got an English class to teach, and don't want to cancel it and run to the doc just for what may end up as him finding nothing. (or nothing more than dried out sinuses)

Fred-you can get blood from dried out sinus's, mine are bleeding this morning and do every winter. However, in my experience you can tell the difference with a bit of intuition or at least a check. Once I got used to how my lungs feel before a bleed I can normally tell just by that but also if you clear back your throat and spit (with no cough) and no blood and you blow your nose and no blood then pretty good chance it is from lungs. For me at least the lungs will come in a brief stint like you described where as the sinus's will be a slow and steady sort of thing.

Since your fairly new to this just a reminder you shouldnt (at least per my protocol) due your nebs or CPT tonight.

Just to add to what Nicole said, I don't do the vest while having hemoptysis, but I do do my Xopenex, to open things up.
With me, at least, that doesn't seem to further exacerbate the situation like TOBI or Pulmozyme would.
Keep us posted!

I was going to actually mention the same thing as Nicole about blowing your nose. I had this issue alot before I had my transplant I would cough up blood, but was unsure of where it came from. I woud blow my nose and pretty much every time I coughed up blood my nose was semi bloody too. So for me almost everytime I had wha would appear to be "hemoptysis" it was actually just a bit of a nose bleed.

Take Care,

Lindsey
