coughing fit!

ok seriously i dont get this,,,
i played a basketball game tonight (we won!) but ass soon as i step off the court after the game i went into a coughing fit! i just couldnt stop! after my coach finally let me go to my mom (only cuz i convinced him only she can help) and we head home. it took an hour to get home and i was coughing the entire way!!!! grrrrr i took an albuterol and im fine now but seriously and hour of coughing! does any1 hav any tips or tricks on how to stop or at least minimize coughing fits till u get home?

Hi Jessica,

Oh man, that stinks. I always have coughing fits right after I'm done exercising (very rarely during). It seems to just hit me afterwards for some reason. I don't really have any solutions for you. But how about doing some albuterol right before you play a game? It might help a little.

Sometimes sore throat spray works for me. Sometimes it helps numb the constant tickle in the throat. I keep some near by at all times. It doesn't work on the constant tickle in the lungs.

Unfortunately, it happens. A lot. People with CF have a lot of inflammation going on, and many things can aggravate that. So we cough. It can be embarrassing, especially in class or in a movie or at a social event.

For me, the treatment depends on the cause - infection (treating the underlying problem), mucous - airway clearance, allergens - antihistamine, irritation - throat spray, lozenges, sipping water, inflammation - albuterol/prednisone.
