<b>Hello people!</b>

I'm Aaran,
Long have I searched for a site to question my CF on and at last I have found my haven.
As this is my first message/topic/thing please go easy on me if I make a mistake, put it in the wrong section etc etc..

Anyway, here's my thing.
I'm a pretty healthy CF patient wieghing 90Kg (14 Stone-ish) and standing at 6ft. I'm a fitness instructor and a boxer and a boxing coach in a healthy relationship with a lovely lassy.
But alas, all is not well in Aarans-ville. I've had a cough at the back of my throat for about 2 years now and the only way I can descirbe it is like a feather just brushing at the far back of my throat.

This makes me cough coooonstantly! Like an insane amount.

Doctors have had me in for I.Vs countless times. (I say countless.. I mean 5.) Over the past 2 years and I've seen the ENT (Nothing wrong there.) And I've been on courses of Cipro and the likes. NOTHING WORKS. NOTHING.

Anyone had a cough like this? It's the only thing I'd say is wrong with my health. Tis bizare.

Thanks for your time, I shall check back in the morning to see if you good people reply!

Thank you again and goodnight!

Could it be postnasal drip -- sinuses draining down the back of your throat. If so, have you tried doing sinus rinses.

A couple years ago my son had an odd throat clearing cough, that I thought was just habit. Then he had a throat culture done and he was culturing steno. maltophilia. His doctor put him on septra, which is what the lab report indicated the bug was sensitive to and the cough went away.

Ahhh good answer.
I've had cultures done with no avail sadly. I shall try something along those lines though! Thanks for the reply!

Stupid silly coughy thing.

Hi Aaran,

YES! My son has described the same thing for the past 2 years, literally! He is 13 and has missed so much school because of it, once it starts he can't stop coughing Sometimes it is worse when he lies down at night and sometimes it isn't. Lately he has been chewing ice which he says helps a bit. He has tried EVERYTHING and like you he is fairly active and his lungs seem in good shape, pft's over 100%. But yes he coughs and it is very bothersome. He cultures staph and in the past antibiotics for staph, particularly kephlex seemed to help but once he would come off the antibiotic the cough would come back and then if he went back on the antibiotic it wouldn't help anymore. He also had sinus surgery 4x in the past 2 years as it does sound like a post nasal drip cough. The surgery would initially help but then he'd start coughing again. I literally thought he was the only one with this problem, so even though I am sorry you are going through it it is comforting to know it isn't just him. :) It makes you feel crazy. One thing the md's always questioned was reflux, so he is on prevacid 30 mg 2x a day. Might help a bit as the cough isn't as severe as it was last year, but he still coughs. Described it the EXACT same way last year, like a "feather was tickling the back of his throat". If you ever find anything that works you have to be sure to tell us. :)

I had a cough for many years, which survived the vast amounts of penicillin given me via IV when my appendix ruptured, no impact on the cough. Then, I got "blepharitis", an eye infection in one eye, and tried four six-week treatments of antibiotics prescribed for treating same, without luck. Then I read an article (<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.jnanobiotechnology.com/content/3/1/6">http://www.jnanobiotechnology.com/content/3/1/6</a> ) and read in a forum that the "silver nanoparticles" referred-to in the article were essentially the same as you get in colloidal silver, and tried that on my blepharitis, and got immediate results. Within a day or so, the blepharitis cleared up. Then, I stopped using CS and it came back, and I figured out that it must've been an infection of the tear duct, so I attacked it from both ends - using it as eye drops *and* nasal spray, and it worked! In the process, I also found myself coughing less frequently, so I reasoned I must have an infected sinus w/. post-nasal drip, so I used a generic nasal decongestant to dry up the sinus so the CS could get into the (otherwise draining) sinus, and that worked! For good measure, I sprayed some CS into my mouth as I inhaled to get it into my lungs, and my chronic cough stopped completely, overnight! I've used it for many other incidental problems, like back zits and athletes' foot, and it's worked on everything I've tried it on, including stopping colds dead, same day. I recommend using only 10ppm concentration, not higher, because it's already effective at 10ppm and higher concentrations tend to have limited shelf life, as the nanoparticles of silver tend to clump together at concentrations >14ppm. The particles are most-effective against viral infections in the 1 - 10 nanometer range (as indicated in the linked article). I also recommend that you avoid the expensive stuff, it's no more effective than the cheapest (from reputable sources).
