Coughing more than usual

Hello

My daughter 16, has been on Hypersal and Pulmozyne for 4 months. After 2 weeks of therapy her cough decreased by 98%. This last week she is having an exacerbation of her cough, lots of mucous, productive coughing. She is 100% compliant with meds, using her Accapella after each Neb treatment. She is on Antibiotic Ear drops for an ear infection that is draining,(she has tubes). She has not needed systemic antibiotics since starting CF treatment. Is anyone else experiencing an increase in cough?

My daughter is m470v and 7/T 7/T, Bronchiectasis, Chronic Sinus Infections, Chronic Ear Infections, 2 negative Sweat Tests, awaiting testing for Nasal Potential Difference
and Nasal Nitrogen to rule out Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia.

We just visited her Pulmonologist for her third well visit PFT's were normal.

We live in Northern New Jersey

Could it be allergies?? Anyone else?

Thank You,
Momofmia

Could be allergies; however, being that there's productive coughing and increased mucus, it sounds as if there's something going on there. I'm noticing quite a few people in my office who've developed colds with upper respiratory infections. I ended up with one myself a couple weeks ago.

I would contact the clinic and see about having them run a sputum culture. Could be she's got something going on. Years ago DS was on tobi, a couple oral antibiotics and we do vest treatments 3 times a day and he developed an upper respiratory infection. I would've thought being on all those meds, he'd practically be glowing; however, he was culturing something and needed a little extra help -- cipro.

Ragweed is very high now and it has the effect of increase the amount of coughing that I do so much that some days I don't need to vest. I'm in Massachusetts.

Bill,

My thoughts also. September has always been a tough month for Mia. She has missed the first day of school at least 4 times. She has had two PICC Line insertions; once the end of September and once the beginning of October. I'm hoping that we may avoid that this year as it is her first fall with Hypersal and Pulmozyne. Thank you for your response as always.

Ratatosk Thank you so much for responding. I called her Pulmo. and she told me to increase vest time and add one more hypersal treatment. She doesn't need to see her unless she becomes febrile. Mia has never cultured any Bacteria and we've given many samples. Even with her fevers its normal flora, and we've had heafty samples expectorated after chest PT. Her docs are reluctant to Rx antibiotics because of this. She usually bounces back after a day of rest, hydration and diligent Nebs. I do value your advice as My daughter is Newbie. ( Recently diagnosed kind of)
