Coughing spells

I was on IV's for a pretty bad exacerbation for about 4 weeks. I felt better, but short of breath most of the course. I was exercising and feeling better during the third week so we felt pretty good about stopping the IV antibiotics.

After stopping the IV's I started TOBI. Some background: I haven't been able to tolerate tobi due to Shortness of breath, for a little over a year. I suggested to the nurse that I try taking flovent beforehand. This worked for my SOB during the course of IV's. It has helped with the TOBI SOB, but I've experienced coughing spells several times a day since starting the TOBI. The spells have gotten worse and I've been on the TOBI for six days now. My cough is productive, but I don't feel congested or particularly sick. I just get a tickle or a funny feeling in my chest which can't be relieved until I have a coughing spell. I'm trying to eat six meals a day to gain weight and these spells are resulting in me throwing up.

Any suggestions?

hey there

I just wanted to say that I often have a more productive cough when I am on TOBI. There is one major difference though, when I am on TOBI my sputum is thinner than when I am not on it. I take it as the antibiotic treating the Psuedo, but that is one thing I notice. If the staph that I culture is a bigger problem than the Psuedo then the sputum I have is about the same thickness, color and texture.

I hope you start feeling better and that the shortness of breath starts to lessen.

Take Care,
Lindsey
