Coughing to the point of Vomit

What treatments do you do? Are you on Pulmozyme?

Throwing up has been a big problem for my son too, we just started him on pulmozyme, saline, vest & symbicort (like advair) and he is doing much better because the pulmozyme is thinning the mucus so he has an easier time getting it up without it hitting his gag reflex. But then he might be dealing with smaller amounts of mucus than you are.... hope you feel better soon -- oh yeah, I also agree with the post nasal idea -- you could try an antihistamine to see if that might dry you up some?

Hmm...
My post was in regards to just having the feeling of throwing-up after treatments since I've started the new meds last week. Whether I cough at all or not, I had gotten nauseous.
I've had a few times before where I've coughed so hard I wanted to throw up, but I guess it was "self-will" that prevented me from doing that.

Oh, Jennifer...

I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this. Please know I'm thinking of you. I personally hyperventilate when I think I'm going to puke cause I HATE it so much.

One thing I've done when I'm coughing so hard I feel like I'll puke is to keep a cough drop in my mouth ALL DAY... I know its suppressing the cough, but usually, when I cough that hard, its not getting anything up anyway cause its more of a bronchospasm and less of a production thing.

If you get nauseated without coughing, maybe you could try phenergan or zofran? Or, one thing I was Rx'd once for a hard cough and just feeling crappy was something called "Tesslon pearls" cause it looks like little pearl pill. You could check into that. It kind of acts to "numb" the throat and relax the muscles.

Hope this gets better for you, hon!

IF your vomiting is irritated by the actual coughing then I use the slow breathing & sips (not gulps) of cool water. This is what my therapists have me do when I try coughing up during the sessions of my CPT, but it starts coming from my throat instead of my chest.

Sorry to hear this girl! Its the pits.....
