Coughing up blood

The stuff from my lung is NOT pink and frothy... mine is bright red and pure blood. So your EMT might not be knowledgeable of what happens specifically with CF patients <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

HEY Tess!

Long time no hear!

IF this is your first time with the bright red then definitely contact your doctor since you dont know the exact cause.

For many of us we who have history of bleeds we tend to know when we need to call etc.

Drink cold water & take Vitamin K if you have it until you reach them. I would stop your vest or CPT & pulmozyme until you are cleared. This is what our clinic does with bleeds normally until you are blood free for 24 hours.

Let us know whats up!

Yep, call your doctor. Pink, frothy sputum could be due to irritation/inflamation in the respiratory tract, but full bright red blood is an active bleed and needs attention. I know this sounds gross, but if you have a measuring cup handy, start coughing the blood into that so you can give your doctor an amount when you talk to him/her. When Andrew has bled we kept measuring cups in the bathroom, next to his bed, etc., so we always had an amount.
