Coughing up blood

Hello...

So, I'm kinda worried. Since our vacation started about 2 weeks ago, I've been coughing up lots of yellow crud (pretty normal.. maybe a tiny bit more than usual, but I take that as a good sign since I just got out of the hospital about a month ago).... anyway, streaked in the yellow-green mess is a little blood. Its pretty dull in color and almost a red/brown color. Its pretty much there every time I cough stuff out. I know this is kinda a "normal" thing with CF, but curious if others experience this and what their docs have said about its causes, remedies, etc.?

I'm not coughing any harder than usual and now its been going on for about 2 weeks. When I emailed my doc about it, she didn't seem too concerned and kinda said they look at lots of things like energy level, etc... My energy has been pretty decent except I'm a bit rundown from our vacation and all the visiting and LONG days. Also, I went from a very dry Vegas desert climate to a 70% humidity climate for the past couple of weeks, could that have something to do with the blood? I'm just tossing around ideas.

Anyone have any input on what causes this and if I should be as worried as I am? My next appt. in clinic is scheduled in 2 months... and, my doc is 400 miles away.

Thanks!!!

Out of curiosity, do you get dry sinuses? My first experience with the blood in the sputum was about the same time my sinuses would have some streaking when I'd blow my nose. Dry air from places like Vegas might be related.
Also, when I had an aspergillus (I think it was that one) infection, which is less severe as Psudomonas, but equally as hard to kick it's butt, I had some minor streaking.
I'm just another CF'r, so there may be other replies along with mine. I'd say to just increase the water intake, since my wife says the lack of water will add to the cause of lung function problems.
Hope you feel better, soon!

For me if I have a bit of streaking for a day or two not a big deal, anything more than that and I go in to get checked out. Normally at least for my clinic that is a sign of low lying latent infection and needs treated, while I used to wonder if that is true my PFT's generally reflect that it is so, even though they will still be 'good' they will be lower. Normally, if I catch it at this poitn before it gets out of hand a round of cipro will do me.

If this is a new development for you I would say it definitely necessitates checking out.

Thanks, guys...

Yeah, I do get dry sinuses when coming to Vegas from somewhere else, but the odd thing is that I went to a humid place and it started... so, that's why its kinda weird too.

I will probably get it checked out my next clinic visit... My doc doesn't seem too worried unless I feel sick and she is 400 miles away... urgh. I guess this is a case for going to a CLOSE doctor! LOL....

Anyway, anyone else have any idea what could be causing this? Just curious.
