Couging up blood

Diane

New member
Julie,
A tablespoon 2 to 6 times a day is reason for calling the Dr. right away. When i said 2 tablespoons i meant at one time, but if he is coughing up blood 2 to 6 times a day something is going on and you dont want to ignore the signs. He has to STOP lifting weights, and stop the vest, at least for a few days. Im not sure about the Pulmozyme....some say it contributes to their hemoptysis . Any time you have hemoptysis several times in a day is a sign that somethings going on. You absolutely do NOT want to ignore it.

I'm putting in a call to them today, against Mark's wishes. That's what good spouses do right

Yup, you are right. his body doesn't belong to just him anymore.... he has 3 children that he needs to stay alive for.

You are doing the right thing - good for you!

I just want to say that I agree. Against his wishes my butt. He's MARRIED and a FATHER, and you have every right to call them if he's bleeding from the lungs.

I coughed up pure blood for the first time about a year ago. It only lasted about 45 minutes, and then stopped. I didn't want to contact my doc, because it was so short. But Mike really wanted me to (he was freaking out), so I did anyway. Good example. And good girl, call them.

My doctor tells me to stop Pulmozyme and sometimes the vest depending on how bad the bleed is until I am completely blood free for 24 hours. The pulmozyme and weight lifting I definitely suggest he stop until the blood is completely gone.

I'd ask the doctor when you call, but my "pediatric" clinic told me to stop my Pulmozyme for a day or two when I had bleeding.

I agree with this. I am told to stop pulmozyme, hypertonic saline, vest and exercise till I am 24 hours blood free. I hope this ends soon for Mark.

Julie,

the others are right...he should hold off on pulmozyme for a day or so and if he does the vest make sure it is turned down. As far as lifting goes, I quit lifting heavy(well heavy for me) a year ago because of the blood. maybe he can just lift half of his normal until the blood stops, that's what I did?

let us know
