I wanted to post about this as an fyi for anyone interested-
I have the flu right now. Its been about 8 days. Last Friday I started feeling a low fever and aches, by Sat I had a fever of 101-102, diahrea and vomiting. My local family doc said on Sunday that this sounded just like a flu going around. I called the cf doc on Tues-which by then it had progressed to a bad cough, sleepless nights, runny nose and dark yellow sputum.-she said that tons of patients (cf and non cf) were admitted for this, its a flu that is esp agressive on the lungs. She said the flu shot i got in oct wouldn't have included this strain, but it could help the symptoms to stay more mild-which would explain why my fever didn't go above 102. (for the pregnancy, thank god) She started me on a double back to back dose of Zithromax-b/c this is a safer med for pregnancy. I've slept every night since and my sputum is getting thinner and lighter everyday-and my cough is improving, BUT this is a very severe cough, and a big blow to me. I had just gone to the clinic a week prior and my pfts were very very high, and i had tons of energy. So this could hit anyone anytime. For some patients this turns into pneumonia.
My doc feels that oral meds shoudl take care of this, but it will take a while b/c of the severity. the next step wouild have been ivs, but she felt that I didn't need them quite yet I guess.
Just passing along the info and urging you all to please wash your hands tons, use antibac wipes on everything, constantly use purell after you touch anything. Of course sometimes that doesn't do anything (look at me) but it helps. if you are going somewhere and you know someone has had this or been exposed to it, just don't go!
