Well, we're off to the hospital. Fort Worth ended up being full as well so they tried Methodist in San Antonio but it's also full. The doc just called me back and said they think they will have a room available later today. She wants me to head that way (cuz it's a long drive) and if that room does not open up we will just go in through the ER and stay there until a room opens. All the ER rooms there are private and that way we can get the PICC started.

Thanks again for all the responses. I will try to get online while we are there... sometimes I can and sometimes I can't get a connection.

One good thing is I just bought her the entire series of Full House for her birthday. I have it hidden in my bedroom but I think I'll break it out a little early... it'll definately come in handy for the next few days....

Thanks again!!!

Well, I guess we're not off after all. Not yet anyway. I left work early to come home and pack and then the nurse called and said they didn't get a bed like they thought...and the dr decided the ER was not a good choice because it is so full they won't be able to get her into a room for a long time and there are way to many sick people there for her to be hanging out in there.

So they gave me two options... drive 6 1/2 hours in the morning to have an outpatient PICC line put in and then come right back home... they will give her some milder IV antibiotics at home for a few days until they get a room available (probably Monday or Tuesday) and then admit her for the "real" meds... or do nothing at all until they get a room available... They won't give her the strong IV meds at home without being able to monitor her for the first few days.

The only other option would be to have her admitted here locally by her pediatricain (if they even have a room available) and try to care for her there. My concern with that is that we'd be dealing with nurses and stuff who have no CF experience. And the people who do the PICC lines at this small hospital probably don't do it very often so that scares me too...

Gosh, what a choice... Any thoughts???

I would go for the PICC line and iv meds at home till they can get her a room. You want to make sure she is getting the best treatment and if your small hospital is not familiar with CF then it probably isn't a good idea to take her there IMO.
