They are keeping track of symptoms at the schools because <i>the regional board of health is requiring them to- to track and hopefully limit wide-spread infection throughout the school district</i>. This is for the safety and protection of the children & staff alike.

I agree as well that we will not have accurate numbers at any point on how many are infected, especially since a large number of people will only get mild infections that are easily confused with a more run-of-the-mill virus. Once seasonal flu comes around, it will become even more difficult to tell since a rapid test won't differentiate between the two.
