delta508

I was just wondering about different mutations and the genes you get from your parents. I know I have the delta508, and I know we are all different in how it affects us. I was looking at my family tree the other day. My family has always been 'big'--my mom is 6'2'', my dad was 6'3'', my brother is 6'4. My grandmother is still over 6 feet and she has been shrinking for the last couple of years. I am by far the shortest person. Aunts, uncles, my 14 year old cousin--everybody is over 6 feet. Anyway, nobody in my family is 'small'. I am a pretty 'normal' 5'5. But, I have no problem with weight at all. If you calculate my BMI, I am considered overweight (though not by much). I was just wondering if coming from a family of giants, if this contributed to the reason of no weight problems. I know it is my mom's gene and my dad's gene coming together, but they obviously have the genetics that make them so large, which they also gave to me. My mom and dad both had large families--we are talking my mom had 6 brothers and sisters. All of their children have at least 3 kids a piece. I am still the only one with cf --I am also the only one under 6 feet, and the only one with red hair and green eyes. My mom's family are generally known for long life spans--into their 90's and 100's. All of them are still alive. My dad's family (including my dad) are all dead--heart attacks (probably from being so big), leukemia etc... I never saw my dad sick. My mom is not any sicker than anyone else, but she has a ton of stomach problems. Like if you eat a huge meal, and don't take enzymes--you know what happens. Well, this happens to her whenever she eats. I should give her some enzymes and see what happens <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">
Well, I don't guess I have a question. I was just making a long random observation. I know I have two genes that came together to make cf, but I was just wondering about the other genes I have, and if that makes some of the difference on how we are affected, or if it is completely random, and I have way too much time on my hands to be thinking about this...

I am "overweight" also, my pre-pregnancy weight was about 122 (I am about 128 now) and I am 5'2 - my family is not big. i think I just have decent absorption, though I am on enzymes, and some lucky twist of genetics. I am not sure my mutation - one is delta 508 but I don't know/can't remember the other one. My PFTs rae in the 70s. So I don't know that heredity has much to do with it excpet for the genentics of the disease.

Well I'm 5'6, my weight varies from 120-132.

My FEV1 is usually between 87% to high 90s, and I have double delta F508.

My family also consists of quite a bit of overweight people, but I'm not - so I'm not sure if heredity plays a big role - who knows though.
