Hello,
My name is Kristi and I am in my second year of dental hygiene school. I am writing a research paper on the complications of dental treatment that are related to CF. Any information you have or sources that you have found to be helpful would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Kristi

I spoke to my daughters dentist about this when she started going and he said that years ago they used a certain antibiotic which caused the teeth to turn black. The dentists and dr's have agreed not to use this antibiotic anymore and this is no longer a problem. I do not know of any other problems associated with cf.

The only thing I can think of is when I had to get my wisdom teeth out, they couldn't put me as far under as normal people because they were afraid it might interfeer(sp) with my breathing etc. Everything turned out fine, except for about a minute I woke up, unable to move or anything and I could feel them poking at my gums, but I forced myself back to sleep.

Well last year when I was in the hospital they thought i had abscesses (sp) in my lungs and they asked if I had recently had dental work. I guess baceteria can get into your system sometimes when you have dental work done. I dont know the extent of this but I just know that they asked me that.

I've always been told before having any major dental work done to take an antibiotic a couple days before. I had an implant in my mouth, and even though I had my transplant, I was still suseptable to infections since my immune system is kept supressed for rejection purposes (basically my anti rejection meds lower my immune system) Anyways, my oral surgeon knowing I had CF and a transplant said I should take them, and we called my doc, and he agreed. I took them, and everything was fine.
