Kelly, Jessi has a good idea with the Mirena IUD. This particular IUD lessens bleeding and cramping with periods. It does contain progestin. Easier procedure than a hysterectomy.
It would be nice to figure out why this is happening before choosing surgery.

If you decide to let them take your uterus out: I think I heard of a new method to take it out through your vagina. As we are usually coughing a lot, I can imagine that would be a lot easier and less painful after the surgery than taking it out through your belly!
I had a surgery some years ago with a cut low down my belly and it was very very nasty afterwards for some months...

I had major problems with extreme bleeding after my transplant. I would bleed constantly and heavily to the point of being extremely anaemic..

After 2 years of basically bleeding without any breaks what so ever it was decided that hysterectomy was the only option (well they were suppose to be just taking out a dodgy Ovarian cyst along with the Ovary, but problems occurred and they yanked the uterus as well)

In regards to Uli's comment about having the hysterectomy done vaginally the only problem is if the surgery is done via laparoscope and vaginally is they have to remove your cervix to get it out... Once the cervix is removed so is the support...(thats what my gyno told me anyway)

My ovary was suppose to be via laparoscope but when they went in for the hyster they did the cut so they could leave my cervix in for the extra support... The reason being that with the coughing you are more prone to prolapse after your uterus is removed....

With the Cervix remaining you still have to do pap tests etc but at least you minimize the risk of prolapse down the track....
