Hi there, i have CFRD i test my blood sugar regularly and inject myself with insulin twice a day.. My diabetes has been very easy controlled. and the injections are not painful its a tiny needle. just make sugar you dont eat sugary foods to much! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hi, I have CFRD too. I do the carb counting though. It's where you add up the carbs of what you are going to eat and then just adjust your insulin. I have to inject everytime I eat but it's no big deal. It's better this way because then I can eat whatever I want and just cover what i am eating! I hope you are doing well with this and if you have anymore questions don't hesitate to post.

Is there any main symptoms to CFRD...are they the same for a normal diabetic? I am curious because I was supposed to be tested during my annual blood draws, but for some reason wasnt tested this year. I am just wondering what I should look out for. Thanks

excessive thirst and urinating, weight loss, hunger, blurry vision, bad lung function, numbness, dizziness. pretty much the same as a normal diabetic.

I remember the excessive thirst. I would drink and drink and drink and never could quench my thirst. It was awful. Now my bloodsugars are under control but sometimes I get too low and start to sweat and shake and just feel really weird, I hate that feeling.

Hi,
I've had cf related diabetes for over 24 years now and as scary as it may seem it isnt as horrible as you may think. I take insulin once a day, and check my blood sugars a lot throughout the day which helps me keep my blood sugars under control. 265 is high after 2 hours, but not critically high. Some diabetics with cf are only diet controlled or take oral medication, some take insulin, having cf diabetes is basically the same as any non cf related diabetes. We treat it the same with only one main difference, with cf you have to still pack in the high calories. Once you get the hang of it, you will feel more at ease.

Hi Everyone!
I have had CFRD for the past 7 years and from the beginning I was insulin dependent. I did the shots twice a day, without carb counting. Unfortunately, I have a major sweet tooth so the fact that I couldn't eat candy was very depressing for me - and usually led to me not being very compliant! About a month ago I started using the insulin pump and I am so happy with it! I have to check my sugars more often, but I can eat anything I want now (as opposed to when I still ate what I wanted, but shouldn't have.) I recommend the pump to anyone who is insulin dependent; the only downside is the little machine is with you 24/7, but it is only the size of a pager so it isn't that bad. It continuously gives you insulin throughout the day so your sugars are more in control.
