Hi, does anyone have any info on applying for disability in Canada. Ie - how hard is it to get it? My PFT's are in the low 50's. Any info or reference to a website would be great. Thanks.

Hi!

I am in Montreal Québec. I was just taliking to my father about this last weekend actually. IF the government deems you disabled you can get your Canada pension at any age. The only thing is I am not sure if CF is considered a dissability? Call 1-800-O-CANADA and tell them your question and they will direct you to the right place. The pension is about 700-1000$ depending on your contribution. I am just really winging this so if you get any info please let me know...I have a 10 yr old w/cf. My father said they will usually deny the first attempt so appealing is really important.

Good Luck!

Hi. I live in Ontario Canada and my 11 year old boys are on disability. Im not sure how you would go about getting though, as the hospital social worker and myself filled the forms in at the hospital when the boys were first diagnosed at 3 months old.

Hey Anon,

I have just recently been approved for Disability in Canada, I'm in NB.
Basically it was easy.. sad as it is to say .. Go to your local EI office and ask
for the form. They may say you need an appointment to get it, "to see if you qualify" you will, don't worrie. Take and fill out you part as best you can I had some questions ... when I actually sat and thought about them they weren't actually that hard.

Give the medical part to you Dr. to fill out and it take around 3 to 4 months of getting this or that in that they want after you have filled for it. But in another month they'll call, ask a few questions and then a day or two later they'll say your claim has been aproved.

With still yet another 4 to 6 weeks for the paper work to go from the claim department to the 'pay out department'. Though by the time you get your first check you should get a good one.

Two things, only go on EI sick leave, regular EI will be paid back from the disability, and two there's a 3 month waiting period for which you won't get anything, they claim it's a 'waiting period'.

So yeah I guess thats the LOW down on CPP Disability.........

I have the same questions for you Trina. My pfts are in the 60s, and I've only had a couple of hospital stays, but everytime I go back to work whether its even part time, my health goes on the decline.
