Does my daughter's nebulizer suck?

My daughter hasn't been using a nebulizer for terribly long. We started her on hypertonic saline some months ago. We just asked for more of the nebulizer chamber parts, and her center sent in an order for them, and we got parts for a Pari LC nebulizer. But we don't have a Pari LC nebulizer. We have aPhilips Respironics Inspiration Elite. Do we have a sucky nebulizer? Should we be asking for a Pari LC instead? The NP at the CF clinic had just assumed that's what we had when she ordered us the replacements parts, and this is making me wonder, which is better?
I am asking her tomorrow at CF clinic as well but thought that you guys would have much more experience with what actually works for you than the nurse practitioner would.
Any thoughts?

OK, now I am beginning to see that my vast ignorance is showing here.

It seems that I can't tell which parts are the nebulizer.

The thing we're using that I was trying to get replacements for is this, a "SideStream Reusable Nebulizer"

The thing that sits on the table and plugs into the wall and makes lots of steam come out is the Philips Respironics Inspiration Elite. I thought that was the nebulizer, but clearly I am a doofus.

If you could have any set of things at all to get hypertonic saline into you, what would you pick? I want to make sure we're using the right equipment and obviously I am ignorant.

Thanks for your patience with my cluelessness!

My bf has a compressor, from Pari, its the Vios he just got it a couple weeks ago, as his old one from pari died. He uses the pari LC cup for hypertonic and Tobi, and the Respironics side stream cup for Pulmozyme. He had been using the sidestream cup for the hypertonic too, until a couple weeks ago, because he didn't know that his clinic had told him to use the pari LC cup for it. The Pari cup takes longer to do the hypertonic, but I think thats the point of it.

My bf has a compressor, from Pari, its the Vios he just got it a couple weeks ago, as his old one from pari died. We use the same set of cups as mentioned above. I've been told by the homecare supplier that HTS can go in pretty much any "durable neb". Wile in-patient, she uses the pari. I like the pari the best.

As far as the compressor goes, we have a pulmo-aide. We were using a omron compressor and it definately did suck. Pulmo-aide is what tobi was trialed on, and is wayyyy more effective then the other one we had. When we got the Pulmo-aide, our neb time went down by 5 or 10 minutes per cup.

When you say you were getting "replacement parts" you were refferring to getting a whole new neb cup right? as far as I'm aware, they should be replaced every 6moths, and sterilized daily.

Just tell them the old compressor fell off the tabel and isn't working as well anymore, then ask if you can try the pulmo-aide. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

The Pari ProNeb Ultra COMPRESSORS are HORRIBLE. I have a Philips Respironics Inspiration Elite COMPRESSOR, I use the sidestream when I do Pulmozyme, Inhaled Glutathione, or HTS. For HTS the sidestream make its A LOT less harsh. Tobi I do in the PariLC+ and Cayston in the Altera.

The side stream Should only be used for Pulmozyme. I've had many conversations about neb cups and meds. It is much faster but breaks down the molecules in other medicines (too much or not enough) to be effective. I've learned the hard way that if u do them in the wrong neb cups it's like not doing them at all.

As far as the compressors go I've had Pari's for as long as I can remember (at least 20 years). I get new ones every 5-7 years but don't have a complaint with them and don't notice a difference when I'm doing nebs at home from hospital ....hope this helps. I've been to 4 Cf centers in Pa and johns Hopkins in md and all have recommended pari

I have gone through 2 pari nebulizer compressors within 5 months. The first one refused to turn on after long and the second one wouldn't pump the medicine at all. Based on my experiences I would not reccommend a pari compressor. I do use the pari cups though especially with the HTS and it does good. As far as I know it doesnt really matter what cup you use with your nebulizer. Please correct me if thats wrong!
